Salamanders look a lot like lizards but are actually amphibians, like frogs and toads. Thats why they are slimy. When animals look like other animal that they are not closely related to they have gone through what is called ‘convergent evolution’- they appear similar but when you look really closely at their features inside and out they turn out to be very different!
But the term can be used to say only one feature of an animal is like a feature of another animal that looks really different (did you know Koalas have fingerprints?).
