Wolverine

They live in North America.  They eat meat.  They are not wolves.  They are mammals.

A person: no, wolverines are not rodents; they’re mustelids, like ferrets and weasels.

And they’re found in boreal forests not only in Russia, but northwest Europe (e.g. Scandinavia) as well.

the wolverine is a savage mammal that belongs to the weasel family.
the wolverine is the largest land dwelling member of it’s family but overall
the giant otter is the only relative larger than the wolverineo. they also give
off a skunkish odor that has gained the wolverine the nickname “skunk bear”.

The Wolverine is indeed of the Mustelidae family, but it is also a Mammal. Weasels, Ferrets, Otters, etc are all Mammals.
Mustelidae is a sub-species in the general species group of Mammal.
It’s just the same as Humans being a sub-species of the general species group Mammal or Snakes being a sub-species of Reptile.
The Wolverines bad disposition comes from them having a Hyper Metabolism. This means they digest food very quickly and are thusly always hungry. Imagine the mood you’d be in if you were permanently hungry.
They are so bad tempered that they live as solitary animals in a large territory they guard as their own and only get together with other Wolverines to breed. Then they immediately seperate again lest they kill each other.
They are generally fearless and will attack animals several times their own size and will even attack whole packs of Wolves. They will hunt prey as large as Cows and steal food from other predators, even Bears, though this usually goes badly for the Wolverine.
The Wolverine is a killing machine and is undoubtedly one of the most vicious animals on earth. For its size it is proportionaly far more deadly than the many species of large cat. This is probably down to its sheer agression and tenacity in a fight. They never back down or know when to give up and run.
In short, the Wolverine is a nasty, aggressive nutter of a creature, but you’ve got to admire ‘em.

Cut and paste this link to the Burke Museum. It covers most of the facts and has some good images as well. It’s well worth a good read.

Maybe it’s not about reading a book…it’s about reading the right book

    A) a marsupial IS a mammal
    B) A wolverine isn’t one – even if it has your leg.

Marsupials include things liek kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, wombats, bandicoots, and opossums

Here is Mr. W’s classification for those interested:
    Kingdom: Animalia
    Phylum: Chordata
    Subphylum: Vertebrata
    Class: Mammalia
    Subclass: Theria
    Infraclass: Eutheria
    Order: Carnivora
    Suborder: Fissipedia
    Family: Mustelidae
    Subfamily: Mustelinae
    Genus: Gulo
    Species: gulo
Subspecies: gulo (Old World), luscus (New World) – possibly, vancouverensis and other isolated subspecies not yet identified.
